Mobile Commerce Security
How do you make the majority of your purchases these days? For most people the answer would probably be online. We may go hunting around the stores for a particular item and then check online to see if we can get a cheaper and better deal elsewhere. It is this reliance on online shopping that has been at the forefront of the technological revolution over the past 2 decades and it is a fact that many companies are seeing their online sales far outweigh those from inside their actual stores.
What about mobile commerce though? While buying online has significantly risen recently the act of buying items through your mobile phone has not even if it is enjoying growth every year since it has begun, the fact is that it is not catching on as many would have hoped and thought it would. One big factor in this lack of success is down to security.
When it comes to buying online the one thing that tends to put many people off is security and how safe their purchase will be and, more importantly, their details and credit card or debit card information. In an age when fraud is far easier to achieve then it is hardly surprising that everyone takes the security of their details seriously. However to say that carrying out transactions on your mobile phone is unsafe is not really true and most apps that allow you to do it carry just as much encryption and therefore security as doing it through their website on a computer. Only around 25% of consumers believe that doing business through a mobile device is as safe as doing it through a computer although this is starting to change as more people are becoming aware of the potential that this market holds.
